Preventing and Combating the Menace of SGBV (Sexual and Gender-based Violence)
principles of human right
Another day, same mission; addressing one of the most prominent challenges of the twenty first century: Preventing and Combating the Menace of SGBV (Sexual and Gender-based Violence).
SGBV violates the very principles of human right, human dignity and equal rights of men and women. It is one commonest social malady, or conflict that has become a silent pandemic today, a mental health issue and a social concern.
On this project, the Team at Renaissance Foundation for Peacebuilders (REFOP) are prioritising prevention and curtailment of SGBV amongst our teens; particularly the secondary schools Students.
On the day 2, the team were at Eko Junior College, Orile Agege on the same mission: Educating the students on the prevention and curtailment of SGBV for a safer Future.
The team from REFOP’s went to Eko Junior College to talk to the students about the problem of SGBV (Sexual and Gender-Based Violence). The team educated the kids about the negative impacts of SGBV, including mental illness, low self-esteem, and depression. They emphasized the significance of comprehending the problem, knowing how to prevent it, and dealing with its ramifications. The team urged students to come forward and report instances of SGBV that had affected them or someone in their immediate circle.
Additionally, the kids learned about how people are related to one another and how SGBV affects all of humanity. The group underlined the need of treating one another with respect and the necessity to refrain from exploiting anyone, regardless of gender. The students were urged to speak up anytime they saw wrongdoing and to report instances of SGBV. It is hoped that the knowledge learned would assist the students in preventing and addressing the issue of SGBV in their community as a result of the team's timely and well-received visit.
Overall, the team's visit was effective, timely. The team has given students the tools to speak up and take action to prevent and solve the issue in their community by educating them on the effects of SGBV on mental health and academic performance. The knowledge obtained is intended to support the students' advocacy for a safe and healthy learning environment while helping them prioritize their own mental health and general wellbeing.
